The Minot Air Force Base Library believes that having strong customer service skills is our foundation. Our customer service skills come in the form of greeting our customers with a smiling face, providing reliable information from authoritative sources, and providing materials and programming to fit our customers' entertainment needs. We believe that providing a first-rate technological facility will be vital in providing strong customer service in the future.

Policies

Computer Policy
The Minot Air Force Base Library recognizes the need for computers for a variety of reasons as an adjunct to library services, especially reference. Access to this resource actively supports mission goals and educational programs. Some restrictions do apply. Library staff do not have the time to train people on the use of computers. Staff can help when there is a problem, but learning to use the computers and programs are the responsibility of the individual.

All persons using the computers may stop by the front desk and grab a password card. You may then login to any lab or kids computer; when you're done please log off and bring the card back. Computer use will be limited to one (1) hour when others are waiting.

The following resources are available:
  • Internet Explorer 7.0 - check web email, read news, etc.
  • Windows Media Player - watch news, etc.
  • Microsoft Office 2007 Professional - Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Word
  • Various databases:
    Auto repair, Aviation Week, CountryWatch, CultureGrams, EBSCO databases, Encyclopedia Britannica, Federal News Digest, IEEE Xplore, Jane's Online, Kids InfoBits, Military Periscope, ND State Library Resources, NetLibrary, NE Journal of Medicine, NewsBank, NewspaperDirect, Northern Sentry, OCLC FirstSearch, OverDrive, Petersons, Rosetta Stone (Online Language Center), Safari, SIRS, Stratfor, Thomson Gale, & Tumblebooks
Patrons may not use the library computers to do any of the following:
  • Make any attempt to damage computer equipment or software or to alter software configurations, operating systems, or browser settings.
  • Download or install any software on these computers or run any programs from floppy disks, CD-ROMs, USB jump drives, etc. which are not already installed by the library.
  • Save data to the hard drive.
  • Violate copyright or software laws.
Anyone who misuses or damages the computers may have their library privileges suspended, be prosecuted and financially liable for damages.

Library Card
Any eligible person aged ten or older may receive a library card. Customers must be registered in order to check out library materials. Each person must have their own blue library card. Sponsors must sign for their dependents.

Children aged nine and under are not to be issued a library card.


Overdue Policy
  1. The first overdue notice is sent out when an item is 7 days overdue.
  2. The second overdue notice is sent out when an item is 14 days overdue.
  3. The third overdue notice is sent out when an item is 21 days overdue. The notice will also state that your library priviledges have been suspended until the materials are returned or replaced. If not remedied immediately, notification will be submitted to the appropriate office in accordance with squadron policy. Notices will be sent to the email address provided to us or mailed to the person's address in our records.
